Tapping and How It Works
So what is tapping and how exactly does it work?
You’ve probably heard of acupuncture and acupressure. They’re both ancient Chinese healing methods that engage the body’s natural meridian or energy points to restore physical health.
Well, tapping uses the same principle but the application is a little different.
Tapping is performed by literally ‘tapping’ your body’s key energy points with your fingertips to release negative emotions, pent-up frustrations, pain (both physical and emotional), mental blocks, limiting beliefs and much more.
Basically anything that stands between you and the life that you want to live.
That’s it… it’s that simple!

You might find it hard to believe that such a ridiculously easy technique could create potentially life-altering results.
I thought the same thing just a few years ago when I was going through a particularly difficult time in my life.
I had decided to leave college to do something meaningful and different. Part of the plan was to run a successful business… but things didn’t work out the way I thought.
At this point, I started feeling really sick — sniffles, awful sore throat — the works. Then my brother Nick walked in and said: “Hey, I want to teach you something that’s going to make you feel better. It’s weird but just give it a try.”
Now, Nick loves practical jokes and when he explained tapping to me, I wondered if it was some sort of elaborate joke!
Then I did it, and experienced the results…
There was a huge burst of emotion, which I felt almost instantly. It was a release, like an enormous weight had been lifted off me.
When I finished that first cycle of tapping, Nick told me to take a deep breath and it was then that I realized my sinuses had cleared. I had read that emotions impact our bodies but until that moment, I had no idea how profoundly true that was.
It was only the first time I had used the tapping technique and I felt an immediate emotional and physical shift… it was nothing short of amazing!

If you’re still a little skeptical about the effects of tapping, you should try it for yourself right now.
After all, you’ve got nothing to lose. It takes just a few minutes of your time, there are no side effects plus the potential benefits are fantastic!
So here we go…
Before you begin, close your eyes for a moment and think of a problem or issue in your life that is making you feel a negative emotion such as anxiety, fear or worry.
You can use the tapping technique even if you’re feeling some sort of physical pain. So, if it’s your back that’s giving you a bit of trouble, focus on that.
Are you thinking about your current problem? Good!
Next, rate the your negative feeling on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being an utterly intolerable state and 1 something that’s just mildly annoying.
Now it’s time to start tapping!
First tap the side of your hand with your fingertips, the area that’s on the opposite of your thumb, while saying this setup statement “even though I feel (fill in the blank here with stress, anger, anxiety etc), I completely accept myself.”
Next tap the eyebrow point, which is the area near the top of your nose, where your eyebrow begins. Repeat your earlier statement but this time, you don’t need to complete the entire sentence.
If your statement was “even though I feel angry with Jane, I completely accept myself” you can now say “angry with Jane” while tapping 5 to 7 times on each energy point.
These are the other 7 energy points that you need to tap to complete one cycle:
- the area at the side of your eye, right on the bone
- under the eye, on the bone
- under your nose
- under the mouth, in the centre of the crease in your chin
- the collarbone
- under your arm about a hand’s width from your armpit.
- the crown of your head
Once you’ve finished a single cycle of tapping, take a deep cleansing breath. Now check in with yourself and rate your feelings between 1 and 10.
Do you feel any better? If you’re above a 5, do another cycle. Keep going until your negativity is no higher than a 1 or a 2.
Tapping To Sidestep Hidden Traps
Some ‘tappers’ use this incredible tool as a quick pick-me-up when they’re feeling blue or when they need to get a handle on their emotions during a crisis.
The other set of tappers incorporate tapping into their daily lives to create the kind of results they want in important areas such as health and finance.
Personally, I’d encourage you to become part of the second group.
Why? Well, when tapping is used regularly, it can help you clear the subconscious beliefs that stop you from reaching your ambitions and goals.
Subconscious beliefs are those little nagging doubts that are embedded in your subconscious mind.
For instance, you might want to become wildly rich and successful, but you might have a hidden subconscious belief that says: “if I’m rich and successful, my friends may get jealous and I’ll lose them.”
This type of powerful hidden belief will stand in your way as you step on the path to personal greatness.
Neutralize damaging beliefs by creating a set-up statement that addresses this issue when you tap.
In this case something like “even though I’m worried I’ll lose my friends, I accept myself.”
You can try this with all your goals — losing weight, finding the love of your dreams, creating more abundance — just identify the possible downside or anything that makes you feel a little uncomfortable about achieving your goals.
Then, create the setup statement and tap to release these negative beliefs.
So, tapping can help you on two levels. You can instantly find relief from negative feelings and physical pain…
And when you tap on a regular basis, your mind is going to be clearer, you’re going to get better ideas, you can be more resourceful and you can get into the flow.
You’ll make your dreams a reality in much less time and with far less effort!
